As part of the current crop of artists spearheading the UK acid revival, Chevron has always made this genre a significant part of his output, with releases on 030303, Acid Waxa and Balkan vinyl. Chevron now resides in Reykjavík, Iceland and is working on two new albums which will be announced soon. For more info check out chevvers.com.

We chatted with him about how he’s using the Prophet 12.

What made you choose the Prophet 12?

“It was the most feature rich poly synth on the market at the time and still is to my knowledge. All the power of a modular synth and none of the wiring. A very forward-thinking machine.“

How are you using it?

“Originally, I chose the desktop version to save space in the studio, but as it easily fits in a backpack, I now use it to play live. It’s great because when I connect it to my sequencer I can play two sounds at the same time and tweak them independently.”

What’s one of your favorite things about it?

“With two simple button presses you can pretty much modulate anything with anything. I am also a big fan of the alternate tuning modes. I hope Dave will expand on this again in the future, as I loved to create my own scales on the Prophet-5.”

What does it give you that other instruments don’t?

“It is an absolute beast: 12 voices, four oscillators, four LFOs, four envelopes. It’s like having two powerful poly synths in one tiny box. With 100 modulation destinations and now linear FM, the options are nearly limitless.”

Any interesting tricks or techniques you’d like to share?

“I love messing with those four delay lines. When controlled and synced by random LFOs, you can get some metallic rhythms and really trippy effects! You have to remember to actually make some music because you can get lost in that world for hours!”
