Press Global again to exit the Global menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nConnect your computer to the Prophet Rev2 using either a USB cable or a MIDI interface.<\/p>\n
If using USB, the Prophet Rev2 is a Class Compliant USB device. That means it does not require\u00a0any additional drivers to be installed to communicate with your computer. It will appear\u00a0in SysEx Librarian, the Mac’s Audio MIDI Utility, and other MIDI applications as a MIDI\u00a0port named “Rev2.”<\/p>\n
If using a MIDI interface, connect the computer’s MIDI out to the Prophet Rev2’s MIDI in.\u00a0Depending on the type of interface, you may also need a MIDI cable.<\/p>\n
Most MIDI interfaces or sound cards with built-in MIDI interfaces will work. However, we\u00a0have received reports that Digidesign\/Avid interfaces and Native Instruments Maschine may\u00a0not transmit SysEx correctly for updates. The M-Audio Uno is an inexpensive, reliable, and\u00a0widely available MIDI interface for use when updating our instruments.<\/p>\n
To load and update the OS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Run SysEx Librarian.<\/li>\n
- Choose your MIDI interface from the “Destination” menu.<\/li>\n
- Click Add\/+ to add the file to the file list or simply drag and drop the file on the\u00a0open SysEx Librarian window.\u00a0The file name appears in the file list and should be highlighted.<\/li>\n
- Click Play. The Prophet Rev2 shows\u00a0a numeric progress display\u00a0indicating the progress of the SysEx file’s transfer. Follow any directions listed on the Prophet Rev2’s screen before\/after the countdown completes. When the file transfer completes, the “Do Not Turn Off!” is displayed as the OS is written to memory. DO NOT power down while\u00a0Prophet Rev2\u00a0display shows this message.<\/li>\n
- When the installation completes, the Prophet Rev2 restarts itself. You can verify the install by pressing Global. The installed OS version appears at the bottom right of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
IMPORTANT NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\nIf the display goes dark when the update is sent to the Prophet Rev2, do not shut down\u00a0the Prophet Rev2. The Prophet Rev2will automatically power off then back on when the OS update is\u00a0complete. The update will take longer than the SysEx transmission displayed in\u00a0MIDI-OX.<\/em><\/p>\nIt is necessary to calibrate the oscillators and filters of the Prophet Rev2 after you update the OS.<\/em><\/p>\nTo calibrate the oscillators and filters:<\/i><\/b><\/h5>\n\n- Press the\u00a0Global<\/em>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n
- Use the\u00a0Parameter<\/em>\u00a0knob to select\u00a0Calibrate<\/em>, then press the\u00a0Write<\/em>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n
- The synthesizer performs its auto-calibration procedure. Don\u2019t turn off the power while it\u2019s doing this.<\/li>\n
- When finished, the front panel controls will return to normal and you can play the Prophet Rev2 again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Troubleshooting<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n- If the numeric progress indicator stops\u00a0before the file transfer is complete, turn the Prophet Rev2 off, then on,\u00a0and try again. If this continues to happen, it may be because the transmit speed is too high. Choose Preferences from the SysEx Librarian menu. Click on “Transmit Speed” and\u00a0reduce the speed. Then close the Preferences window and try transmitting the file again.\u00a0If the problem persists, try reducing the speed more.<\/li>\n
- If “Status Byte Received In Data” is displayed, turn the Prophet Rev2 off, then on. This error\u00a0means some other MIDI message the Prophet Rev2 was not expecting was sent through your MIDI\u00a0interface. Make sure all other audio or MIDI or DAW software is closed, and no other MIDI\u00a0devices are connected.
