Growing up in south London, British-Bengali musician Tara Lily has a unique perspective on music and global culture. She has spent her life absorbing a multitude of sounds and genres from her surroundings, ranging from electronica to trip hop, jazz and Indian soundscape.
We chatted with Tara on how the Prophet Rev2 and Fourm are used in her music:
What made you choose the Prophet Rev2?
Prophet Rev 2 was my first synth and it changed my life a lot… I felt like I was connecting with the universe.
How have you been using it?
I’ve been using it to create and play live music. My new record Break The Motion features multiple sounds and textures from the legendary Prophet.
What is one of your favorite things about it?
I love split action; I’ve got a bit of a split personality… You can create two completely contrasting worlds and play them together. Fierce and gentle. There’s 16 voices, so it’s good for jazz chords and textures.
What does it give you that other synths might not?
I love the built-in effects unit… You can alter and save your own sounds for stage instead of relying on pedals or software. It also has 4 LFO’s you can map anywhere. I mapped one of mine to the noise which created an ocean wave effect.
You’ve since been using Fourm. What does Fourm provide you with that the Rev2 doesn’t?
Fourm is like a baby Prophet (minus split action) perfect for taking on the road. Super powerful, fits into hand luggage… He comes all round the world with me. Our next stop will be New York.
